Christ the Saviour Orthodox Parish is an Old Calendar mission under the Bulgarian Orthodox Diocese.
St. John the Barefoot, of course is St. John Maximovich whose relics lay incorrupt in the Joy of All Who Sorrow Orthodox Cathedral in San Francisco. Maybe this is why San Francisco hasn’t fallen into the ocean.
St. John was a Russian Orthodox bishop who fled Russia after the Revolution, leading his flock through China and the Philippines before bringing them to San Francisco. After this he was bishop in France and Belgium before finally returning to San Francisco to help settle the troubles of the immigrant community there. He is renowned as an ascetic and wonderworker both in his life time and afterwards. Many turn to St. John for a miracle when there is no earthly hope.
We do carry a life of him from St. Herman of Alaska Brotherhood, both in English and in Russian.
